Pete's ASPI CDR 1.4 Released!
|
Pete's ASPI CDR is a CD-Rom plug-in for Playstation emulators who follows the PSEmu Pro plug-in standard for Windows.
New:
* A few drives are not supporting the "wait til ready" command I am using on startup. So I've decided to make an option for turning that waiting function off... activate it, if the plugin is only giving you a black screen with _all_ of your games on startup.
* A new caching mode, called "Async read". That one will give you a few more FPS on MDECs and XA audio, by doing an additional 'intelligent', non-blocking read... I've seen up to 10 FPS faster mdecs that way... not too bad... no other cdr plugin is getting an higher speed on my system right now :) Big thanx to Roor for suggestions...

FCE Ultra 0.55 Released!
|
FCE Ultra is a NES emulator for multiple platforms.
It's the Windows and Linux ports that have a update this time.
News in Windows port:
* Rewrote window resizing code. The window will now resize itself to a multiple of the NES' screen dimensions nearest to the user selected dimensions.
* Added an option to use buttons instead of axes on physical joysticks for the emulated D-Pad. This is useful for some digital joysticks.
* Fixed a bug that would cause FCE Ultra to crash if sound were disabled during emulation.
* Added the ability to "fast forward" emulation(use the tilde/grave key).
* Added an option to allow more than 8 sprites per scanline to be displayed.
* Added an option to save all extra non-volatile game data (such as battery-backed RAM) in a directory under FCE Ultra's base directory(as opposed to the directory the game is located in).
* Added an option to allow the emulator to change to a full screen video mode once a new game is loaded.
* Rewrote pieces of DirectInput joystick handling code. Hopefully it should increase compatibility.
* Added the ability to automatically obtain button numbers when configuring joysticks, by pressing buttons on the joystick.
* Added the ability to close the current game(decreases CPU usage).
* Increased the speed of various function calls by passing arguments to functions through registers instead of through the stack.
* Added emulation of the MMC5's raw PCM register.
* Added the ability to save/load save states while network play is occuring.
* Having PAL emulation enabled will no longer override the NTSC/PAL settings in NSF headers.
* Fixed a bug that got into the .54 release. Extraneous data was being returned on reads from $2002, which caused problems with some games(such as "Choujin Sentai Jetman").
News for Linux port:
* Added the ability to "fast forward" emulation(use the tilde/grave key).
* Added command line options "-no8lim" and "-subase".

Official Daedalus ini 1.0b Released!
|
The Daedalus ini is the ini file for the Nintendo 64 emulator Daedalus for Windows.
News:
* Completely new ROM entries.
* Completely new ROM settings.
* Completely new ROM comments/info.
* Entire ini is in alphabetical order.
* CRC and Country Codes are left in lowercase.
* ROM titles are all correct. (Thanks Cowering! (goodn64 v0.999.4 BETA).
* ROM comments/info are all uniform.
* Version ROMs are now recognized. (e.g. (v1.1), (v1.2), etc...)
* PAL/EUR ROMs are given the same comment/info as the USA ROM if one exists. This saved a lot of time during testing and wasn't really anything to worry about...as Daedalus isn't picky about what country ROMs are from. However, some...if not most PAL/EUR ROMs have
screen alignment errors that wern't listed under the 'info=' area, so be aware.
* Did I mention that this ini is TOTALLY NEW...nothing was carried over from other ini files except for the UCodes =).

Virtual Emulators Selection
|
Just come across an interesting looking website with a bunch of ongoing emulation projects. None of them are major, but I believe they are the sort of thing important to emulation: "preserving old systems". I've never used any of the systems on the website, but "hey" someone will be a fan of them. They are as follows:
* Virtual Aquarius 0.6 - An Aquarius emulator. Status: near completion.
* Virtual MC-10 - A Radio Shack TRS-80/MC-10 emulator. Status: near completion.
* Virtual APF - An APF Imagination Machine emulator. Status: only just begun.
* Virtual NEC Trek - An NEC Trek (aka NEC PC-6001a) emulator. Status: working, not completed.
Would anyone care to enlighten me as to what an APF Imagination machine?? Check them all out right here:

Final Burn Launcher 0.311 Released!
|
Final Burn Launcher is a frontend for the emulator Final Burn. It can play all the decrypted CPS-2 games, and now it's also a frontend for callus, so you can play all CPS-1 games.
News:
0.311
* Added Capcom Sports Club to the QPlayer front end - listen to the sounds from the game.
0.310
* I have decided to end the patching system - I have gone back to the fbclone files. Just copy fbclone1.exe, fbclone2.exe and fbclone3.exe to your Final Burn directory. The patching system was just causing too much confusion and Dayvee has now given permission for hacks.
* Added Street Fighter Zero 3 - with Region Switch and Title Switch.
* Added Super Street Fighter 2 X (Japan) - with Region Switch and CPU speed switch.
* Added above switches to the switches menu.
* Added above games to the input routines.
* Added a Front End for Callus - seen as though everyone requested it. You need to update the options dialog with the Callus folder.
* Finally got the Brazil Region Switch for Super Puzzle Fighter 2 X working.
* Added Input menu for Slam Masters 2. It was previously under the fighting games input but should really be on it's own.
* Added the rent version of xmcota to the QPlayer Front End. This is X-Men: Children of the Atom (Alt).
* Many, many small changes.

RetroGaming Radio back soon!
|
Shane R. Monroe's once-famous internet editorial classic gaming radio show, RetroGaming Radio has a new show in production!
The show will review several classic game packages, talk about E3 from a classic gamer point of view, and (drum roll please) will feature an interview with the godfather of Commodore 8-Bit gaming, PAUL NORMAN; the man behind the great Cosmi classics like Forbidden Forest, Super Huey, and tons more! His schedule is tight, but he's committed
to doing the interview. RetroGaming Radio returns, and if you think the come-back show is hot, just wait til you find out what is in store for future shows!
Keep an eye on the website (http://rgr.monroeworld.com) for details. The archived shows will start trickling in a bit faster too, leading up to the comeback show.
Thanks to Shane for the news

S.H.A.C.C. 0.89-38-364 Released!
|
S.H.A.C.C. is a frontend for many emulators.
It now has 38 configurable emus and 364 supported ones.
News:
* Added support for MameW (cool). Cannot configure yet but probably not really needed anyway! Games can be auto updated and launched from The SHACC. Don't forget to run MameW with the -createconfig first.
* Fixed a Problem where if you didn't have a shacc2.ini an error would occur when trying to config emus.
* Added screenshot support to console and handheld sections. Screenshots to go in normal folders. Whatever is selected in the right hand rom box the SHACC will look for a screenshot with the same name. eg. 1080_Snowboarding_(NTSC).v64 would produce a search for: 1080_Snowboarding_(NTSC).bmp or 1080_Snowboarding_(NTSC).gif or 1080_Snowboarding_(NTSC).png or 1080_Snowboarding_(NTSC).jpg. Screen types will be altered to suit soon.(Box Art etc)
* Fixes and tweaks

Modeler goes car crazy!

One of my all time favourite games of all time, F1 Super Lap, has just been figured out by the Modeler team. There are all sorts of preliminary screenshots of it running on the Modeler Gallery page, so head along and have a look.
Also there are some great new shots of outrunners as well, which is now looking pretty much sorted out, with the road now being in the right place rather than in the sky ;)
I personally can hardly wait for the next release of this excellent Sega emulator, although I'm a little bit biased ;)

RetroBase Update!
|
RetroBase got a HUGE update! They have added screenshots of 1950 SNES games!
Chris says:
"Today's a great day in the history of RetroBase: We are proud to present you the most complete list of Super Nintendo (aka Super Famicom, for our Japanese visitors :) games with screenshots on the web! This is something you won't find anywhere else done on this niveau. We decided to not include homebrew games or demos, as there's too much bullshit floating around. Also, "BS" games (from Nintendo's game channel back then) are missing due to the lack of working emulation for the majority of them at this time.
The usual database with author, genre, etc. info isn't ready yet, which means the section is screenshots only for now. We are looking for good people with some time on their hands and the will to help with the database, so if you're interested please e-mail me.
Finally, I'd like to thank all the people involved in this project. They have worked months on this release and without them, the SNES Project would never have seen the light of the day. Kudos, fellows!"
Also, check out who's done parts of B, K, T, U & Y ^_^
See all those nice screenshots on this page.

* Roms now aren't analyzed everytime Nebula starts. They are checked when romsets are changed or when you press the Rescan button in the OTHER config screen.
* Changed main 68000 core to Bart Trzynadlowski's Genital 68k, which is a bit faster than starscream, and has less bugs (perhaps none).
* Rewritten the layer 2 drawing code. Rowscrolling problems are almost fixed (only missing avsp intro). It has caused a small slowdown, but with the little speedup of the main core the speed should be the same as before.
* 19xx gfx problems fixed at last. If you use old savegames, then the problems will not be fixed until a stage change in the game.
* As some people has reported that the new gfx code (v1.3 and later) is slower than the older one (1.2 and before), then I've added the ability to use the old gfx code using the -oldgfx command line option.
* Sprite priority code has back to the original code that causes less gfx problems.
* Implemented sprite bankswitching (one of the still unemulated features of the cps2 hardware)
* Added PNG unfiltering modes (Sub,Up,Avg,Paeth). PNG files created with other tools should look right now.
* Fixed most Raster problems. Things look a lot better. Only remaining some sprite problems.
* Changed the Savegame format. Now the sound is correctly restored when loading a savegame. The old format is still recognized and loaded.
* Data files (configuration and savegames) are not encrypted anymore. If you want info about the format of these files, send me an E-mail.
* Fixed the "controller setting forgetting" bug. It's fixed now, but it requieres that you delete the old config files.
* Added the ability to save the controller data as the default mapping for games using the same button layout.
* GUI graphics can be changed (see -packgui option).

Final Burn Launcher 0.291 Released!
|
Final Burn Launcher is a hack/frontend for Final Burn. It makes ALL decrypted CPS-2 games playable!
It's good to have it back!
Note from author:
"I know Dayvee isn't happy with these hacks but there are others out there. I did discontinue this project publicly but I could see you were struggling to get the game working correctly so I'm releasing again. I'm also staying away from
emu politics for good."
What's new:
Version 0.291
* Fixed a bug in sfzj caused by loading an incorrect rom. This came about with the changing of the roms in the new LogiqX DAT files and me screwing up.
Version 0.290
* A lot has changed - Update the Options first.
* Added Super Puzzle Fighter 2X (Japan) and region switch.
* Updated the roms used for slam2e, sfzj, sfzjr1 and sfzjr2 to be compliant with the new CPS-2 DAT files.
* Added Super Puzzle Fighter 2 to the Input Menu.
* Made Flyer and Screenshot Folders configurable - Options, Set Options.
* Made an option to decide whether to default to Flyers or Screenshots - Options, Set Options.
* Tidied up code for Flyers, Screenshots and Game Loading - it is now much more compact and easier to update.
* Replaced the Write Cfg button with an Options button. More useful now that the program writes the cfg automatically if it doesn't exist.
Get Final Burn Launcher from this page.
You'll also need Final Burn 0.114 from this page.
Get updated DAT files for either ClrMAMEPro or RomCenter.

ClrMame Pro 2.10a Released!
|
ClrMAME Pro is a ROM utility that will help you with your ROM collection.
New stuff:
* Absolutely nothing special or new..Just set the default initial value for zipcache to 1MB (people really complained they have to change it to a higher value with every new default setting...). You not necessarily need that new release...Zipcache values can be changed in the settings dialog....
* You wonder about unneeded zipfolders messages ? Here's the reason: CMPro2.1x finds useless empty zipfolder entries which aren't shown in common zipprograms like WinZip. They are simply a waste of diskspace in romsets zipfiles...So cmpro removes them. So don't wonder when you don't see them...

Play games online
|
Our friends over at Fragism have recently started running bookable games servers on super fast connections. Having play tested some of the servers, I can easily say they are one of the best games servers I have tried for fluid lag-free gameplay.
Currently, there is Unreal Tournament available for booking, so if you and your clan would like to play on a server without the hassle of newbies or cheaters joining and spoiling the fun, then head on over and book yourself a server. There are other games available on dedicated servers as well.
There are several booking options available to suit you the gamer, which makes it easy and hassle free for you and your clan.
So if you are interested, head on over to www.fragism.com to rent dedicated servers or go straight to the signup page and have some online gaming fun.
Whats more, a significant portion of the profits goes straight towards paying for your favourite emulation sites hosted on ZTNet including ourselves, so give something back to the community and start fragging.

Final Burn Launcher *RIP*
|
The developer of Final Burn Launcher has posted this explaination:
"Final Burn Launcher is discontinued. When I started development it was based on the fact that Dayvee made a comment that hacking his emu was OK with him. He has very recently changed his position and requested that all hacks of Final Burn cease. This one now has. Although I will still use it for new releases I will not release any further versions and I have removed the program from the site. Everyone, Thanks for your support over the last 3 weeks.
Although, I have discontinued there are a lot of people out there who now how to hack Final Burn to add new releases and unfortunately some of these may not give credit where it is due - something which I tried to do. If Dayvee changes his mind (very unlikely) then I will continue.
Sorry Guys"

Microsoft ready for E3
|
"As much as we plan, it's always a scramble because everyone wants things to look the best for the show," said Ed Fries, Microsoft vice president of games publishing.
"I hope what we show will really bring out the character of Xbox games," Fries said
Xbox could launch this fall with as many as 20 games, but it looks like the number could be closer to 15. Microsoft will publish about a third of those while the rest will come from third- party developers.
Most analysts are betting on a price around $300 Microsoft is expected to lose about $130 on each Xbox sold, and could take up to five years before it turns a profit.

The Ultimate C64 Archive Project
|
Well it's on its way. There's a lot of C64 archives out there but none of them are like this. This archive will feature as many versions of as many games for the C64 possible. Why? Because it's more of a history project than a mere "collect loads of games and burn them on CD" type of thing. For example, there are at least 10 versions of Outrun all from different C64 legends (best and shortest version is by Steve of Laser! Ooh controversy!).
So far, there are 3 of us on the project (me, Mason and Peepo), but we are looking for more people to join us in order to make this a complete encyclopedia of the C64 scene, over 20 years of history! If you think you can contribute, then please contact us:
DrSteveW (1980's)
Mason (1990's)
Peepo (Web Manager)
The site will be hosted at EmuUnlim, and hopefully it will grow massive. I'm even considering writing a book on the Commodore 64 scene and how it has shaped the world of computing today. So please send stories, info, photos, anything helpful to us. Alternatively we are still looking for more contacts from the old days, so if you were a member of the following then please contact us:
* UK: Doughnut Cracking Service, The Management, Scouse Cracking group, Sigma Seven, Billy Buckhead Crew, Ikari, Illusion, Talent
* France: Babygang, C64 Comics Group
* Italy: F4CG
* Germany: Crackman, AEK Crackware Essen, ABC, Jedi, Irata
* USA: Abyss, INC, FBR, ESI, UCF, MSI, Epic, Rampar
Alternatively are you one of the following guys:
Dave Knowles, William Sargent, Tom Sargent, Speedy Dennis, Dean Ryan, Tony Treadwell, Andreas Rust, Thomas Canziani, Candyman, Oahawhool, Butcher, Prowl, Mitch, JJ The Breaker, Nik Taylor, Paul Cardno, Weetibix, Barry Leitch, Janitor, Mr Z, Jason Whitener, Pudwerx, Richy, Dr Dick, Jeff Smart, BamBam, Silver Surfer, Powerplant, Rockstar, Just Ice, Matt of TWG, Jeroen Tel, Snacky, Badger, Charles Deenen, Ixion, Strider, Jimmy Z, GreenFrog, L'Trimm, HOK, Nightshade, Moren, CBA, Burglar, Slator, Casual Dude, Tri-Dos, Yattering, Kreator, Ninja, Lucifer, Mr Sex, Fletch, Excell, Otiss, Non Stop Cracker, Andy Cruse, Dave The Frog, Steve from Brighton....
Damn, there's so many. Look, if you were on C64 scene and were even vaguely famous, get in touch! ;-) For example if you know who Steve of Zenith is/was or who NOSAH was or what "Iguana" was, then contact us!
DrSteveW (1980's)
Mason (1990's)
Peepo (Web Manager)
The site is not ready yet, but when it is, it will be right here:

Final Burn Launcher 0.270 Released!
|
Final Burn Launcher is a hacked version of Final Burn that has support for ALL the playable CPS-2 games.
News:
* Added Dungeons & Dragons (Japan).
* Added the Input Menu. This adds loads of features. It fixes the problem of games with the wrong input labels. It also means that you can "globally" change the settings. You can choose the buttons to use for a fighting game and these buttons will be adapted to every fighting game. There's now no more need to change the input menu 20 times. Supports 3 joysticks and 2 Hot Rods and the Numeric and F keys. Keyboard support requires looking at the scancodes.txt file to find the necessary scancode. Enter the scancode for the key you want to use into the appropriate control in Final Burn Launcher.
* Program now removes any temp files created in Final Burn cfg folder on exit.
* You can now press P whilst the game list is selected to change to a screenshot.

Lewpy's 3Dfx/Glide GPU Plugin 1.0.33 Released!
|
Lewpy's 3Dfx/Glide GPU Plugin is a plug-in for Playstation emulators that follows the PSEmu Pro standard.
- FrameBuffer Access Improvements
I've been working on fully emulating framebuffer access within my plugin. As such, "FrameBuffer Writes" is no more, and has been replaced by "FrameBuffer Access". This has 4 [obvious?] settings: Disabled, Write, Read, and Read/Write. This controls whether the plugin will emulate reads and/or writes directly to the 3dfx framebuffer. Writes are generally fast, reads are generally slow. Setting this to "Write" is the same as setting the old option to "Enabled". The new part is the "Read" option, and fans of the swirly effects in PSX games will love this setting ;)Related to Off-Screen Drawing.
- Off-Screen Drawing Improvements
I've added two more options to off-screen drawing, to help support recursive texturing. The options have been renamed to: Disabled, Basic, Extra, and Full. Basic is the same as the old Enabled setting. Full offers full VRAM primitives, and Extra offers intelligent switching between the two settings. Read the setting description for more details. (eg. Extra allows the MG:S Codec screen to display the frequency, etc. correctly) Related to FrameBuffer Access. For FF9, try - FBA=WRITE, OSD=Extra+FBR. This is the best compromise, with swirly effect on entering a battle, and full recursive textured spell effects, but it does slow down battle FPS when those effects are active. And remember: you can always switch off the new functionality if you don't like it! Setting FBA=WRITE and OSD=BASIC will make it operate like the old plugins.
- 16Bit Texture ChromaKey bug fixed
While working on the FrameBuffer Access improvements, I came across a bug with 16Bit textures and chromakey, where the STP bit was being incorrectly ignored. This is now fixed.
- OnScreen Display Enhancement
If the OnScreen display is set to OFF, you get a 2 second message appear on-screen whenever you change the Save State slot or change the controller type. Unfortunately, there was a bug in the last release, which meant after a while these messages would appear and then stay on screen. Whoops. Fixed now :)
- New Explain Setting Button
Another addition to the special "Super Lewpy Clunky GUI(tm)" suite! It's not quite tool-tips, but hey ;) Press the button and up comes the exact same text from this readme ... because too many people don't seem to RTFM ;)
- Improved Copy Info Output
Now has a section for the ePSXe configuration. Might prove handy.
- Miscellaneous Fixes
There's no doubt a few fixes which I've lost track of :)

Pete's ASPI CDR 1.2 Released!
|
Pete's ASPI CDR is a CD-Rom plug-in for the emulators that follow the PSEmu Pro standard. Also seems like he released both version 1.1 and 1.2 today :)
New:
- I knew it... once I've started, I can't stop... sigh ;) First of all, I've improved the "read ahead" caching, should be a bit faster now.
- The plugin is now waiting until the drive is reporting everything is ready. That will prevent crashes which could happen in the past on game startup (mostly after changing a game cd).
- "Cd drive speed limit" option. Maybe your drive will doing the reads smoother and less noisy if you limit its speed (no differences on my drives, though). Not all drives will support this option.
- Note: don't forget to set the correct cdrom drive letter in epsxe... otherwise lockups can happen.
- There will be NO 1.3 version today... REALLY :)

FCE Ultra 0.54 Released!
|
FCE Ultra is a NES emulator for Windows & Linux.
New in Windows version (same for Linux version except for the last two items):
* Fixed a bug that would cause a wrong battery-backed WRAM file name to be produced if FCE Ultra was passed a file name without any directory component(such as "fceu SuperBlah.nes").
* Fixed an iNES mapper 118 emulation bug that got into the code in a recent code cleanup. "Armadillo" is playable again.
* Fixed a typo(and bug) in the MMC5 emulation code.
* Data returned from emulated reads to "unmapped" areas or memory locations where bits are undefined should now be correct.
* Fixed emulation of the sprite memory transfer register $4014. It now takes into account the last value written to $2003 and starts the transfer to that location in sprite memory(like on a real NES).
* Added a video configuration dialog box.
* Added the ability to configure a custom video mode. Aspects that are configurable include width, height, bits per pixel, and size transforming(stretching and scaling).

You can also see screenshots of the game on this page.
