The Super FX chip which was developed by Argonaut and Nintendo, increased the SNES graphic capibilities.
The first Super FX chips operated at 10 mhz about 3 times faster than the SNES's CPU. Nintendo's took
advantage of this technology with its first SUPER FX game which was fully 3d, Starfox. A game which
many perceive as the stepping stone for N64. Starfox's graphics now crude looking compared to the
games which are released today, but were groundbreaking when it was released. The beginning of game
you are treated to a a intro with huge ship approaching a planet setting the plot. The game is based
around Starfox and his wingmen Peppy, Slippy, and Falco. Our heros are faced with the task of flying
to the attacker's home planet (Venom) and defeating the evil Andross. In the beginning of the game you
get to select your course of planets you which are given to choose your route a easy, medium, and hard
difficulty all of which go to different planets making the replay value excellent. The gameplay is great
and relies heavily on quick reflexes especially in the later levels. The music in the game is arguably
the best to grace the snes in my opinion, unfortunately the composer left Nintendo after Starfox.
Overall I give Starfox 9/10, the game is one of the best on SNES and only in the graphics does it show its age, so if you haven't tried the original Starfox if you have some extra time I would definately give it a try.
