Some say this game is pants. Others say its unplayable - I say "Nuts To You!"
Every arcade goer had a game they played the most as a kid. This was THE game from my childhood. When it first surfaced in a dark dingy arcade in my town, I immediately loved it. It was near impossible to get past the first few computer opponents, but I still pumped money in like it was going out of fashion.
But then something remarkable happened when I watched somebody playing... Ryu threw something at his opponent.. a ball of fire. I thought "How the bloody hell did he do that" and stupidly after the guy left, I looked around the machine for a hidden button. I didnt find one.
It was shortly after I saw it happen again I finally figured something out - it was a hidden move. I managed to pull one off by rubbing the joystick in one corner (ph'narr ph'narr) and rapidly tapping Light Punch. I was gobsmacked. I could do the hidden move!
This is what makes me love the game, even today. The fighting games out nowadays give you no satisfaction when you do a hidden move. Its a case of seen it all before.
If you havent played this game before, you probably think it sucks. Even if you tried it once or twice when it came out, but are used to the more recent fighting games like Streetfighter II or Fatal Fury, you would still think it sucks. But I dont care, I love it. It set the milestone for todays fighters - hidden moves, 6 buttons and multi opponents from around the world
Still, before you criticise it, give it a chance. The hidden moves are the same as the ones in Street Fighter II, but are a bit harder to do, so play it and see for yourself.
